NAIC Meeting Minutes October 6, 2005
The Nashua Area Interfaith Council meeting for October was held at the Good
Shepherd Episcopal Church on October 6, and began at 7:30 a.m.
Breakfast was offered to members prior to the start of the meeting. We thank
Mary Siegmund and Michael Nutter for the arrangements.
Faith Communities represented included: Temple Beth Abraham, Nashua
Presbyterian Church, Arlington Street Methodist Church, Main Street Methodist
Church, Good Shepherd Episcopal, Christian Science, First Baptist, Nashua, Bahai
Faith Congregation Betenu, Hudson Community Church, Church of Latter Day Saints,
Chinmaya Mission, and the Emmaus Institute.
Announcements included:
- Latha Mangipudi described the Classic program to provide care for seniors.
This is an in home program, which could provide up to 24 hour coverage. She
is recruiting caregivers and seniors who need this program.
- A program of Sacred Dance is being offered by the Souhegan Interfaith
Council on Monday October 10. Bill Doll will send out the flyer.
- A reminder was made about the CROP WALK on October 23. Temple Beth Abraham
is the starting and ending point of the walk. Pilgrim Church is coordinating
the program for the second year.
- Tom Woodward report on activities of the Granite State Organizing Project.
- Following a meeting with new school superintendent, Dr. Julie Earl, and
Board of Education member Latha Mangipudi the organization is exploring the
issue of school dropouts. The stage is set for fact finding, and collecting
stories from families who have had children and youth drop out of school.
- Tom Woodward also referred to a fund raiser for the Greater Nashua
Interfaith Hospitality Network. It is a magic show scheduled in December. A
handout was provided. The membership approved an expenditure of $25 to pay
for an ad in the program for the fund raiser.
- Mary Siegmund shared the plans for a service of worship on the afternoon
of Sunday, November 6, for persons who have been sexually abused or violated
and those that provide care for these persons. A free will offering will be
received for the work of Bridges.
- Bobbie Knickerbocker share the activities of Church Women United. No hand
out available.
- We expressed our regrets to Charles Dutton, Arlington Street Methodist
Church and his daughter Lorna Stickney on the occasion of the death of
Carolyn Dutton on October 5.
Program:
A discussion of rituals of our faith communities when death occurs to a
member. All attendees had an opportunity to share and the response was that it
was meaningful to learn of our various ways of handling death.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 a.m.
