Penny Pickers

The Nashua Pastoral Care Center is gearing up for their 11th Annual Penny Picker event.

The Care Center serves women, children, elderly and families in need or through crisis times in their life within the Greater Nashua community. “Penny Pickers” raise funds through volunteers who canvas neighborhoods asking for pennies and change that accumulates throughout the house. Since the event is in it’s 10th year, many individuals actually save their pennies year round and are happy when the volunteer comes to collect them. Banks appreciate getting the pennies back into circulation and Penny Pickers find 2 - 3 hours of volunteering is easy to fit into their weekend to help those less fortunate.

Penny Pickers come in all ages and backgrounds: church organizations and youth groups, Rotary, Kiwanis and Exchange clubs, High School honor societies and sports teams, youth Soccer teams and local College students. The event also provides an excellent opportunity for students to earn community service credit

Anyone can volunteer to become a Penny Picker! This years event will be held on:

bulletSaturdays: October 30th, November 6th and November 13th from 9:00 - 11:30 AM
bulletSundays: October 31th, November 7th and November 14th from 12:30 - 3:00 PM.

Volunteers meet at THE CARE CENTER, 7 Concord Street in Nashua, and are supplied with bright yellow Penny Picker smocks, supplies, refreshments and drop-off instructions. They are then assigned to a neighborhood to cover or may request specific areas they wish to canvass. Teams are made up of two or more people, one of which must be a driver. Once collected, the pennies get very heavy and pickers need to put them in the vehicle prior to returning them to Citizen’s Bank.

Become a Penny Picker today by calling 886-2866 and help the Nashua Pastoral Care Center reach their goal of collecting close to four million…. because every penny counts!
