Sunday, October 21st, CROP WALK 2007…A Walk to End Hunger
CROP WALK 2007 will be held on Sunday, October 21 for the Nashua area. This year’s CROP WALK, sponsored by the Nashua Area Interfaith Council, will begin and end at Temple Beth Abraham, 4 Raymond Street, Nashua, NH 03064. Registration begins at 12:30PM with the send-off worship service at 1:00PM. The director of this year’s walk is Phyllis Appler of the coordinating church, Main Street United Methodist Church in Nashua. Phyllis’ e-mail address is pappler@earthlink.net if you need to contact her.CROP WALK involves people of all ages from the community who come together with the goal of raising money for the hungry people of the world. CROP stands for ...Communities Reaching Out to People and the Nashua area CROP WALKERS do that very well. The monies raised support hunger programs worldwide and locally. Local agencies share 25% of the funds raised. These include the Nashua Pastoral Care Center, the Nashua Soup Kitchen/Shelter, the Salvation Army in Nashua and St. John Neumann Food Pantry in Merrimack. Those who sponsor walkers may designate their gifts to other listed international hunger-fighting agencies if they wish. Those who want to walk, but don’t feel comfortable with the 10K distance can choose the Mini-Walk of 2-3 miles. Last year’s walk raised $45,318 with $11, 388 staying in the Greater Nashua area. Our goal this year is to raise $50,000. We hope to attract more walkers and sponsors to meet that goal. Walkers who regularly participate are encouraged to set personal goals and challenge themselves to exceed their previous numbers. Recruiters are asked to set new goals and methods to encourage participation in their faith based or civic groups. Perhaps you can invite another civic group or sister faith community to work with you. Ask family, friends, co-workers to join the WALK this year. Let’s have lots to celebrate when we conclude the walk with food and entertainment. The Recruitment Dinner is set for Thursday, September 6 at 6:30PM at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 58 Lowell Street (located at the intersection of Canal and Lowell Streets across from Margaritas Restaurant). Dinner will be followed by an educational program presented by Regional Director of Church World Service/New England, Rev. Bert Marshall, a dynamic speaker. This will be an inspirational program and a chance to reconnect with friends and pick up the wonderful new materials to help with publicity. Planning ahead helps increase our success and also provides the opportunity for more members and groups of our community to participate in the CROP WALK!
